When a baby is born with a hole in the heart or congenital issues in the heart, his/her parents and family members undergo lot of misery and the heartbreak. Incidentally, with advances in medical science, the lives of such babies can be saved if they undergo corrective cardiac surgery as early as possible i.e. before they grow older. In fact, if done on time they can resume normal life activities as they grow over a period of time.

Here, we will discuss the case of Baby Jewoola from Nigeria who underwent corrective surgery for her artrial septal defect in India. Baby Jewoola was born with a hole in the heart. Under normal situations, this hole in the heart closes over a period of time after birth but in event of large size of hole or its non-closure due to various reason leads to complications leading to slow growth and poor health conditions. Depending upon the case, this hole is closed manually or placing a valve to seal it through surgery.

Baby Jewoola’s parents sought guidance from Help to Heal Foundation they connected with Ms Namrata who gave them all assistance online and they agreed to get their baby treated in India by eminent paediatric cardiac surgeon, Dr. K. S. Iyer, of the Fortis Escorts Heart Institute in Delhi.

Baby Jewoola arrived in India along with her parents during the last week of January 2020 followed by the surgery to close the hole which was successfully accomplished. Remarkable improvement was noted within a week of the surgery and soon the entire family returned to their home country i.e. Nigeria
