India is medical tourism hotspot that is relied by foreigners for its reliable and affordable treatment for nearly all life threatening diseases. In fact, chemotherapy and radiation therapy for cancer are available across pan India at most affordable costs when compared to elsewhere in the world.

Take for instance, our patient Ms. Oluyemi Akin Olotu from Nigeria relied on India for her breast cancer treatment. She was well aware of the breast cancer treatment she was seeking as she is a breast cancer survivor.

She connected with our Help to Heal foundation online for the same. Ms. Prachi, our patient coordinator got in touch with her. She got in touch with her as well as her brother to understand the actual condition of Ms. Oluyemi and the treatment she required. She received Ms. Oluyemi’s medical reports through email.

Ms. Prachi referred the case to senior oncologist Dr. Suresh Advani

at SL Raheja Hospital, Mumbai. The Dr.Suresh Advani  suggested that the patient would require to undergo a clinical examination accompanied by PET Scan along with a MRM surgery if required.

Modified Radical Mastectomy is suggested in early stage breast cancer i.e when cancer has spread to the lymph nodes. It is a surgical procedure that prevents the further spread of cancer. At the same time, the surgeon removes cancer affected areas while preserving as much skin and tissue within that area possible. This is makes it possible for the cancer patient to go for breast reconstruction surgery, if they so wish in the future.

Ms. Oluyemi and her family agreed to travel to India for the same hence Ms. Prachi processed their travel papers including medical e-visas, accommodation, and doctor’s appointments and so on. Initially, Ms. Oluyemi and her brother arrived in India on April 4 2019. After a few weeks, her husband too, joined them.

Upon their arrival in India, MsOluyemi got herself admitted in the SL Raheja Hospital. Post her clinical investigations and PET Scan diagnosis, Ms. Oluyemi underwent the Modified Radical Mastectomy surgery along with chemotherapy and radiation sessions.

She and family flew back to Nigeria on October 2, 2019 fully recovered and cured. Not only were they extremely happy but they were satisfied with the Help to Heal Foundation team along with Ms. Prachi for their help and cooperation.
