Posted by 74 year old Ms. Onyemata Comfort from Nigeria was suffering from Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Her symptoms included low appetite, lot of vomiting accompanying by body ache. Mr. James Onyemata sought guidance from Help to Heal Foundation on how to get his mother treated in India.
Ms. Namrata, our patient coordinator got in touch with them through phone and email to understand the medical condition of Ms. Onyemata. Mr James, her son exchanged medical reports and doctor’s consultation received in Nigeria.
Ms. Namrata discussed the case with Dr. Suresh Advani of SL Raheja Fortis Hospital who suggested that she would require more intensive tests to ascertain her exact medical condition for which she would have to visit India. Both, Ms. Onyemata and her son agreed to travel to India. Ms. Namrata processed their travel documents including visa invitation letter, medical e-visas and so on. They arrived in India on May 12 2019.
On the advice of Dr. Suresh Advani, Ms. Onyemata underwent a full body PetScan, biopsy and blood work as need by him. On the basis of these results, DrAdvani advised her to undergo 6 months of advanced chemotherapy. This treatment was going to be a long and time consuming one.
Once her chemotherapy sessions started, Ms. Onyemata started feeling better and recovering too. She could eat more and gained some weight too. In fact, she was looking healthier too. In all, Ms. Onyemata stayed in India for nearly 6 months before she could return home to Nigeria in December 2019.
