Mr. Jonathan Shanka of Kenya trusted India for Bone Marrow Transplant for treating his Leukemia

Acute Myloid Leukemia is a critical life threatening disease that causes multiple complications in the patient. If not treated in time and in a proper way, the patient undergoes lot of pain and misery. 50 yrs Kenyan citizen, Mr. Jonathan Shanka was suffering from Acute Myloid Leukemia. His main complaints included high fever, low blood pressure, nausea, headache and even breathing issues.

His friend, Mr.  James Moyae posting his query online regarding the availability of Bone Marrow Treatment in India and details related to its cost, hospitals and doctors offering the same across India on the Help to Heal Foundation portal.

Our patient coordinator, Ms. Namrata responded to the query and forwarded them the required details. At the same time, she got herself acquainted with the medical condition of Mr. Jonathan while receiving his medical test reports and doctor’s evaluations done in Kenya.

She referred his case to Dr. Subhaprakash Sanyal of Fortis Hospital, Mumbai who advised him to visit India for in depth investigation and treatment.  Mr. Jonathan and his family agreed to travel to India and hence Ms. Namrata processed their travel papers including visa invitation letter, medical e-visas and so on. Mr Jonathan was accompanied by Mrs. Agnes, his wife and Mr. Jipson Shanka, his brother and they arrived in India on June 21 2019.

Actual medical examinations and tests revealed that Mr. Jonathan should go ahead with an Bone Marrow Transplant procedure. He underwent an autologous bone marrow transplant after his bone marrow aspirations, blood work investigations were done and after that his first four chemotherapy sessions were completed.

On the overall, his treatment was spread over 5 – 6 months and he was in a position to return home to Kenya by December 2019. He and his family were grateful for the help and cooperation extended by Ms. Namrata and the entire Help to Heal team in ensuring that Mr. Jonathan receives most suitable medical treatment and their hassle free visit to India.
