This was the state of Mr. Damian Okeke from Nigeria who connected with the Help to Heal Foundation seeking guidance on the type of treatment available in India to treat osteoarthritis of the knees along with the treatment cost and other details.
Ms. Prachi, our patient coordinator got in touch with him. She sought further details of his medical condition, willingness to travel and his spending capacity and guided him accordingly. Mr. Damian was not in a position to spend a great deal of money. In fact, he was willing to come down alone from Nigeria in order to save money as much as possible.
Ms. Prachi referred him to Fortis Hospital, Gurugram in Delhi. But he would have to be in India for physical investigations and further diagnosis before deciding on the exact course of treatment. Hence, Ms. Prachi processed his travel papers, medical e-visa and his travel itinerary. On 21st June 2019, Mr. Damien arrived in India alone for his treatment on a wheel chair. His sister and the rest of his family were in the US of A and were in constant touch with him.
He got himself admitted at Fortis Hospital. After thorough medical investigations and reports, he underwent total knee replacement surgeries in both the knees. All throughout surgeries and hospital stay, he was provided with cooperation and assistance from our Help to Heal team. Within a span of 25 days, he recovered well, could walk near normally and perform his normal activities quite smoothly.
Soon, he was given clean chit and fit to fly from the treating doctors. He returned to his home in Nigeria feeling happy and healthy on his recovered health.
