Complicated Neurosurgery in India leads to partial recovery of a 25-year-old patient from Ethiopia.
25-year-old Ethiopian patient recovers after undergoing a complicated Neurosurgery in India
Today, neurosurgery has achieved a great degree of super specialization as there is no damage or minimal damage done to the neuro system after surgery or during diagnosis. The human nervous system is comprised of a brain which has multiple cells and they are connected with our main five sensory organs viz. eyes, ears, nose, tongue and skin. This means patients could face multiple issues when undergoing neurological problems.
Let’s discuss the case of Ms. Zebiba Seid Ebrahem from Ethiopia who was diagnosed with a brain tumour and treated herself in India. Ms. Zebiba had a normal childhood without any health complications. She was a professional nurse and served at a local hospital in Ethiopia. Being a caregiver, she was very sympathetic and compassionate towards the ill patients. In fact, she connected with them so very well and share their grief and sorrows to make them feel lighter and well looked after.
One day she experienced a slight headache for no particular reason and took local pain killers to seek relief from the pain. She continued her normal routine and did not pay much attention to the headache. But, she was wrong here as her headache was just a small signal to a major health disorder or complication which she had to experience soon.
Yes, that headache was an indicator of a tumor growing within her head and it was growing at a rapid pace. In a matter of days, the tumor covered the radius of the big as well as the small brain. In a matter of 4 -5 months, she lost vision in both her eyes.
In Ethiopia, she underwent a small surgery along with few rounds of radiation but with no major improvement. This was because she was suffering from the recurrent or residual tumor of the thalamus since November 2019 which was a grave and life-threatening condition for her and her family.
All was not lost for Zebiba and her family. They were full of fighting spirit and determined to put up a brave front. Ahmed, Zebiba’s brother sought guidance from Help to Heal Foundation online who then referred them to Dr. Ajay Bajaj, an eminent Neurosurgeon attached with the Fortis Vashi Hospital, Mumbai (Navi Mumbai).
As suggested by Dr. Ajay Bajaj, Zebiba had to undergo tumour removal surgery soon. Hence, Zebiba arrived in India along with her siblings during the first week of November last year 2019 for the same. She underwent surgery and nearly 70% of her tumour was removed. She recovered within a week of her surgery to a great extent and soon returned to Ethiopia with her family.
